Biography:
A Tauntaun is a reptomammal native to the icy planet Hoth, first appearing in the 1980 film Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. They are adapted to the extreme cold, covered in thick white fur, and possess two horns.
Rebel Alliance forces stationed at Echo Base used Tauntauns as mounts for patrols outside the base's protective shield. Their ability to navigate the harsh terrain made them valuable for reconnaissance and transport.
Perhaps the most memorable scene involving a Tauntaun is when Luke Skywalker, stranded in the Hoth wilderness after an encounter with a Wampa, is kept alive by Han Solo, who cuts open the recently deceased animal and shelters Luke inside its warm carcass.
